Today's tip doesn't come from me or any magazine. It is courtesy of my mother in law who just learned that she loved spaghetti squash.
I've always cut my spaghetti squash in half and then baked in until it was tender (about 40 or so minutes at 350 F). But then my mother in law told me that you can get the same result if you cut it in half and microwave each half for about 8 minutes. That is a real time saver! And then I did some research and found out that you can microwave the whole thing (without cutting it) for 10-12 minutes and then let it sit for another 5 minutes, cut it in half and you are good to go!
How do you cook squash? Conventional oven? Microwave? I even read about cooking it in a slow cooker . . .
thanks for the TIP!!!! i have to try it! i usually take the long road -- i peel the entire square and then cut it into about 1 inch square and then i toss it all in some good olive oil and finely minced garlic...parsley...salt and pepper and i roast in a 425 oven until the edges are caramelized -- i do that with many veggies and combinations of veggie and it is truly yummy! you change up the seasons according to the veggie you use : ) sending hugs and thanks for a great tip! : ) enjoy the day!
ReplyDeleteI've never tried it in the slow cooker - interesting. I have done artichokes in the slow cooker before - easy!
ReplyDeleteI use my slow cooker to cook just about everything but I've never thought to cook spaghetti squash in there. I am definitely going to try it in the microwave, I love saving time!!!
ReplyDeleteMy three year old, who eats anything, declared that squash is gross. We don't eat it a lot now.I do think it would be neat to try the slow cooker!
ReplyDeleteI buy it already cut up at Trader Joes. I"m big on veggie casseroles which usually the whole family will eat.
